About Oviedo
Oviedo is a city of around 220000 inhabitants in the north-west of Spain. It is the capital of the region called Asturias. Oviedo is famous for its pre-romanesque monuments and the Princess of Asturias Awards. Also, a trip to Oviedo should include a visit to its cathedral, its old town and some typical streets like Gascona.

How to get to Oviedo

  • By plane: The airport of Asturias is located 40km away from Oviedo. It has international connections with London and Paris, and summer connections with Geneve, Munich, Lisbon and Venice. From Spain, you can fly to Oviedo from Madrid and Barcelona, among many other cities. From the airport, you can reach Oviedo by bus for 8 euros or taxi (about 50 euros during the day, 70 euros at night).

  • By bus: the bus station is close to the city center. The bus trip from Madrid takes about 5 hours. Information on the connections can be found at the website of Alsa.

  • By train: the train station is in the city center, not far from the bus station. The trip by train from Madrid takes around 4.5 hours, and that from Barcelona about 9 hours. You can find more information about the train connections at the website of Renfe.

  • Surroundings
    Oviedo is the capital of the region of Asturias, in the north of Spain, and it is a perfect place for nature activities. In the space of an hour you can go from beautiful beaches like Rodiles, Torimbia or Gulpiyuri to the mountains of Picos de Europa. It is also part of the Camino de Santiago.

    The week after the school the international rowing competition Descenso Internacional del Sella takes place. It is also possible rent a kayak and go down this river on a different date.

    Last, but not least, any visitor of Asturias should visit the Sanctuary of Covadonga, a picturesque religious place built in the middle of the mountains.
